Danelle Guthrie is an architect, educator and principal at Guthrie + Buresh Architects. She has been principal-in-charge of recognized and published projects ranging from residential to public works in Los Angeles, Ann Arbor MI, Kauai HI, Sea Ranch and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Licensed in CA and HI, Guthrie was Adjunct Associate Professor of Architecture at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley from 2010–2021. Previous to this she held academic appointments at the University of Michigan, SCI-Arc, UCLA, Washington University-St Louis, the University of Texas-Austin, and the University of Minnesota. She has lectured and/or been a visiting critic at the University of Toronto, Stanford University, the University of Texas, the University of Minnesota, the University of Idaho, the University of British Columbia and the Emerging Voices Series at the Architectural League of New York.
Guthrie received her BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and a Master of Architecture from UCLA. In 2001 she was named a Distinguished Alumna of the Architecture Department at UCLA.
Tom J. Buresh is an architect, educator and principal at Guthrie + Buresh Architects whose built and speculative work has been awarded, published and exhibited internationally. He received a BA in Architecture from Iowa State University, a Master of Architecture from UCLA and is licensed in California.
Buresh was a Professor of Architecture at the College of Environmental Design, UC Berkeley from 2010–21 where he was Department Chair from 2010–18. From 2001–09 he was Chair of Architecture at the University of Michigan. For the 15 years prior, he was a member of the faculty at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. During the same period, he held visiting appointments at UCLA, UC Berkeley, Rice University, University of Melbourne, University of Texas-Austin and the University of Minnesota.
In 1986 Buresh was the John Dinkeloo Fellow at the American Academy in Rome. He was presented the Design Achievement Award from the College of Design at Iowa State University and named a Distinguished Alumnus of the Department of Architecture at UCLA. While at the University of Michigan Buresh received the Donna Salzer Award for excellence in teaching, the Faculty Service Award and was named the Emil Lorch Collegiate Professor. Buresh held the Eva Li Chair in Design Ethics at UC Berkeley from 2011–2015 and was recognized as an Admired Educator by Design Intelligence Magazine in 2015.
